Eugene M. Briggs

Age 83, passed away January 1, 2014. He was born November 28, 1930, in Lansing, son of the late Mulfred and Jessie Briggs.

 Gene graduated from Sexton High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army. He retired after 42 years from the U.S. Postal Service; he delivered the mail in the Lansing area. He enjoyed many activities including cross-country skiing, hiking the North Country Trail, biking the rail trails, Big Band music, and going to concerts. Mr. and Mrs. Briggs travelled the United States together. Gene was a pie connoisseur and just couldn’t pass up a good slice of pie.

 He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Frances (Austin) Briggs; children, Barbara (Kim) Seymour, Donald (Kerry Kendall) Briggs, Kathy (Tim) Jones, Jody Goodwin, Randy (Robin Story) Briggs, Patty Stowe, and Mary (Jim) Couling; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Roberta Dugan and Vernagene Brandell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Raymond Brandell.

 A memorial service will be held on June 15, 2014. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Lansing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rails-to-Trails Conservancy or The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

To the Briggs Family:
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Gene (dad) was a wonderful person and touch so many lives during his professional life and personally. As you know, he was like another father to me and he will be missed.
Hold onto your memories and don’t lose touch with each other. May God continue to watch over you.
