Ted graduated from Sexton High School in January 1945 and was drafted into the army. He was on the west coast ready to be sent to Japan when the armistice was signed ending W.W. II.  He was sent by ship to Korea where he worked as a baker in the 377th Staff Hospital medical unit. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1951 and married Joanne Crego Hacker on 11/3/51. He worked in the family real estate business, the Edward G. Hacker Co., starting out in residential sales and soon became involved in the administrative and commercial side of the business. He was active in the community, serving as a Director for the Bank of Lansing, Member and Past-President of the Greater Lansing Association of Realtors, Trustee on the Lansing Community College Board of Trustees, Director on the YMCA and a 25 year Director on the Board of Sparrow Health Systems.

He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church for most of his life and more recently joined The Peoples Church of East Lansing. Ted enjoyed being with his family and friends, time spent at the cottage on Otsego Lake, playing his trumpet to the sounds of the Big Band era with the Basement Five Band, tennis, and later in life enjoyed the game of golf.

My Mom, Monica, and I are thinking of you all at this time. The ‘men’ of Otsego Lake sure had a great run. People live on in the memories of others they have touched through the years. Take care.

Dear Jo and Children,

We came back from vacation to find out about Ted’s passing.
I’m so glad I got to see him on that Thursday. We would like you to know we are praying for all of you. I know this is very difficult. Just try and take this one moment at a time. And keep all of those special memories close to your heart. We would like to come to the memorial in May. So if you could e-mail me at julie_address_home@hotmail.com
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sincerely,
Norm and Julie Spalding
