John,

I will always remember the kindness Mary Ann exhibited to myself and my staff (US EPA) during the last decade as we worked together on environmental research issues in Michigan. She made me feel welcome and a part of her community. Her warm smile and the professionalism she exhibited will not be forgotten. You and your family are in my deepest prayers.

Mary Ann was such a great person and I got to experience her brilliance recently in our DEQ FOIA LPI as she was our facilitator in training. She will be greatly missed. God Bless.

John,
My old and dear friend. I cannot tell you how truly sorry I am for so great a loss. I miss you both and remmember so well the day you met Mary Ann. You came to work at J. C. Penny with a sparkle in your eye I had never seen before. We talked greatly about the future, new plans that seemed to have come over you and a new found mission that did not include the Sheriff’s dep’t. or the State Police. You new that you wanted to marry Mary Ann.
I recall dinners at the Magic Pan, disco dancing with Bernie and of course being asked to be best man at your wedding.
I am still in awe of a time and place when two people can completely and totaly commit to sharing an entire life together without reservation as you did, something I was never able to do. I stood on the alter and watched as you exchanged vowes and the dertermination in your voices. I feel and felt so honored and blessed to be a part of that day.
Mary Ann was one of a kind. She captured everyone’s heart and attention that she met. Certaintly, “Big John’s”. Even though I am hundreds of miles away, please know I feel your pain, I share your grief and I morn your loss.
In the hearts and minds of those who new her, worked with her and shared her life, Mary Ann will never be forgotten.

My deapest Sympathy,
Mikee

I have been back in Lansing for about the last year and have often thought of you and Mary Ann. So sorry to have waited too long to see you both again. I still remember our many gourmet dinners together during graduate school at MSU. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

I was saddened to learn of Mary Ann’s death. She and I were great friends in high school especially in Junior and Senior years. Our special group of friends had so much to share those wonderful time in all our lives both at LHS and out-and-about in greater Syracuse. I remember two truly memorable events that stand out for me – “Senior Skip Day” at Brennan’s Beach with all our friends playing hookie for probably the first time in most of our studious lives, and the senior prom, with that terrible iced coffee the only thing to drink, at the dance where it must have been 105 degrees. Since it was so hot, we were all energized so much we attended a group after party given by one of our friend’s parents and finally ended up at Long Branch park at the play ground at sunrise (with dresses and tuxes on). I still have the picture of Mary Ann in her peach colored dress and me in my tuxedo at the front of my photo memory book.

John, you and I have never met, but you must be very special for Mary Ann to live her life with you. It feels kind of “mortal” down here, but now i’m sure that my favorite toxicologist is making heaven a safer place for all her friends and loved ones. Of course I also “see” Lady is following her all around and “Mr Heindorf” is driving her from site to site in his wood-paneled Aspen.

My thought and prayers are with you and her family

To John and all Mary Ann’s family – I knew Mary Ann in high school and wanted you all to know how much of an impact she made on my life. She patiently and tirelessly tutored me through my 3rd attempt to get through high school chemistry and succeeded! She made all the difference in my life and all her successes inspired me to keep moving forward academically. I also remember her lamenting the lack of boys interested in her in high school and I assured her that college boys would appreciate her because she was smart. Looks like she found that guy that I knew was out there for her. She was very special and I am glad to have known her, she will be missed.
