Dorothy Louise (Davis) Earls

Age 90, of Haslett, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2015, with her loving daughters by her side.  She was born April 16, 1925, in Lansing to Boyden and Alma (Alger) Davis.

She attended Lansing Central and Sexton High Schools.  She married JV Earls in 1943 and their union was only broken by his death in 2004 after 62 years of marriage.  They raised 4 children in Haslett living at Lake Lansing.  While in school she enjoyed being in the band, playing multiple instruments, and later acquired a passion for traveling, gardening, and Spartan sports (sitting in the front row cheering the MSU football team to victory and attending men’s and women’s basketball games).  She retired from the State of Michigan as a retirement counselor and then became the perfect example of how to enjoy retirement herself.

She was preceded in death by her brother Russell, her parents, her son Jay, her husband, and her sister and brother-in-law Arvilla (Davis) and John Bolley. Those carrying on her memory are her daughters Wilma and Deborah Earls of Haslett, son Boyden (Helen) Earls of Pentwater, daughter-in-law Kathy Earls of Muskegon, grandchildren: Jodi Earls of Kansas, Brent (Rosemin) Earls of San Diego, Lori (MariJo) Earls of Kansas, Shannon Earls of Las Vegas, Bill Earls of Muskegon, Bobby (David) Earls of Lansing, Sasha (Chris) Rousey of Arkansas, Kelsey (Keith) Terpstra of Muskegon, Kim Kaines of Ludington, Ken (Ellen) Kaines of Holland, and Scott (Sarah) Berry of Holland, 13 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Honoring Dorothy’s wishes there will be no service.  Dorothy has been laid to rest next to her husband at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  In Dorothy’s memory contributions may be made to Hospice Advantage, 801 S. Waverly, Ste 200, Lansing, MI 48917.

Wilma and Deborah would like to extend special thanks to MaryJo Ross and Sue Birtles of Lansing and Colleen Horstmeyer of Mason for their thoughtfulness during this time of sorrow.

We love you Mom.  You will be a part of us forever.

Dorothy was a mom to me after I lost my own mother in 1972. I am so grateful for all of the wonderful things she has done for me over the many years I have known her. I love you Dorothy Louise and I will miss hanging out with you – shopping, eating out, going to the movies and laughing!

– your other daughter, Pat

I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I still smile when I remember my dad telling stories of how she would play softball with the kids in the neighborhood. I also have fond memories of the sacks of okra that your dad would leave on our porch. She will be missed.
