Donald Robert Cone

Donald Robert ConeDon was born in Lansing, Michigan on May 12, 1928, to Ernest and Marie Cone, the youngest of their 3 children.  He went to be with his Lord on November 10, 2013.  He graduated from Holt High School in 1946.  Don married the love of his life, Marilyn Lou Greenman on September 11, 1948.  He served in the U.S. Navy then returned to the Lansing area where he was employed at Melling Forging from 1951-1989 and Don also did part time work for Franchino Tool and Die.

Don and Mary Lou raised four daughters:  Lynanne Marie Brouder (deceased), Susan (Steven) Pung, Debra (Fred) Kurtz and Doris Holmberg.  Their family grew to include 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  Don treasured time with his family.

Over his lifetime Don had an active church life.  He most recently enjoyed worshipping at Nevins Lake Church and working on church projects with the men of the church.  Don was a private pilot, belonged to the Lansing Area MG Club, enjoyed traveling in their motor home, international travel, and winters in Florida.  Don had fond memories of trips to Alaska to visit his sister-in-law Jacque Greenman.   Beginning in 1940 his summer highlight was time spent at Derby Lake (Stanton, MI)  He loved being outdoors, working with his hands, and mastering many skills.

Don’s funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the Estes- Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Pastor Dennis Ross officiating.  Interment will take place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Nevins Lake Church, 837 S. Nevins Rd., Stanton, MI 48888.
