David Brian Hendrix

David Hendrix, loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2013, surrounded by his devoted family.

David was born in Lansing on May 18, 1955, to Urwin and the late Margaret Hendrix. In addition to his father, David is survived by his wife and best friend of 34 years, Linda; his sons, David (Jenelle) and Michael; daughter, Jenny; step-daughters, Kim Emerson (Dave) and Allison Mohr (George). He leaves behind his eleven adoring grandchildren Layla, Sonny, and Sullivan Hendrix; Colin, Emily, Gracin, and Kalyn Emerson; Audrey, Morgan, Liliana, and Luca Mohr. He was a caring brother to Debbie Lehmann (Dave), Mark, and Tom Hendrix (Karen). He was preceded in death by his mother and his daughter, Jill.

David graduated from Lansing Catholic Central High School. Professionally, he worked for the State of Michigan Department of Treasury for nearly 40 years. He enjoyed Michigan State University sports, the Detroit Tigers, and traveling. He was an avid runner, reader and golfer. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. David will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his kindness, courage, warm sense of humor, and optimistic outlook on life. Though he left us way too soon, we will carry him in our hearts forever.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at St. Gerard Parish, with Fr. John Klein as celebrant. The rite of committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, on Monday, August 12, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m.; and 1 hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Gerard Parish or a charity of your choice.

Dave was a great friend and mentor. I enjoyed working with Dave. He had the best sense of humor; we had many great laughs together. Dave was also a good teacher and I learned a lot from him. We enjoyed our friendly MSU vs. U of M rivalry. I miss you Dave.

Linda and family you are in my prayers.

Linda,

No words can express how great Dave was. He was so good at making me laugh that the work at Treasury never seemed to be hard.

I will keep him, you and your families in my prayers.

I have thoroughly enjoyed knowing Dave over the past 15 years. I had so much fun with Dave on and off the golf course. What a great person. He will always be part of my foursome in thoughts and memories. My sympathy goes out to Dave, Jr. and the rest of his family.

Linda and Family
I am sorry to hear of Dave’s passing and wish you all the courage and love that Dave showed. Dave was one of my favorite people to work with. He and I shared a distaste for those that did not work and hoped to be carried by others. Dave had a passion for doing things right and in the best way possible. We talked a lot about sports and the activities of our children which we both cared about deeply. Wishing your family the best.

Linda and Family,
Dave was a great guy and a good friend from our first meeting in Treasury’s Mailroom in the 70’s. I have always enjoyed Dave’s sense of humor and I will miss our discussions about history and politics. The world is a better place because Dave was in it.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Dave’s family. I worked with Dave in 1980 on the night shift in the Treasury mail room. He was a good guy and the best supervisor. My desk was only a few feet from where his was and I remember the group of us were always laughing and joking about something. Now he is with our Lord in heaven.

I had the pleasure of working with Dave as a client here at Comerica Bank. He was always willing to assist me with questions or directions I might have needed. He was easy to talk to and will surely be missed. My thoughts and prayers to his family.
