Charles Nicholas "Chuck" Reed

Chuck ReedChuck was born September 19, 1935, in Huntington, WV.  He was adopted soon after birth by Walter Earl and Madalene Augusta (Kirsch) Reed.  He passed away on August 2, 2014.  He graduated from Huntington East High School in 1953.  He graduated from South Dakota State in Brookings, SD, in 1957 with a degree in Civil Engineering.  He was employed by the Michigan Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1997, his last title being Sufficiency Engineer.  In his work he drove state and national highways in Michigan and rated them.  On August 11, 1958, he married Shirley Sue Anderson in Canistota, SD.  They were parents of two sons, John Charles Reed and Paul Thomas Reed.  Chuck enjoyed woodworking and was a member of two community choirs.  He went on work camps with Pennway Church of God to Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, British Columbia, Alaska, and Bay Ridge Christian College in Texas.  After his retirement, they traveled through the United States, Canada, Mexico and overseas.  They spent their winters at Fun N Sun Resort in San Benito, TX.  Chuck learned that he had prostate cancer in 1994 and successfully battled it for 20 years.  He entered Hospice care in June, 2014.

Left to mourn his passing are:  his wife, Shirley; his sons, John (Anna) Reed, and Paul Reed; his sister, Mary Beth (Robert) Grizzell, and several nieces and nephews.  He was pre-deceased by his parents and a niece.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at the Pennway Church of God, 1101 E. Cavanaugh, Lansing, MI, with Pastor John Davey officiating.  Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing.  Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, and also Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials, in honor of Charles may be given to Hospice of Lansing, Inc., Stoneleigh Residence.

Floyd and I are saddened by the passing of Chuck. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. We shared many years of being neighbors. and cherish those memories. Our deepest sympathy.
