Bruce D. Pettit, Jr.
Lansing, Michigan.
Born September 9, 1934, in Lansing, Michigan, son of the late Bruce and C. Audrey (Purchis) Pettit, Sr. passed away on May 6, 2016.
Bruce was a graduate of Bath High School, drove truck for 30 years, was a member of Teamster Local #580. He was also a life member of Lansing Lodge #33, F.&A.M. and the Grand Ledge Lodge #179 as well as being a member of the American Legion Post #480.
Survivors include wife of 59 years, Betty J. Pettit; son, Bruce D. Pettit III; daughters: Brenda K. (Dan) Pettit-Enghoffer, and Angela Downs; grandchildren: Miranda Wohlscheid, Bruce D. Pettit IV, Brittany Pettit, and Danial Enghoffer; sister, Beverly Dodge; half sister, Brenda Marie (Todd) Garrett, along with many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Funeral and Masonic services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, interment with military honors will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00p.m.Wednesday; and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions, in Bruce’s memory, to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.

May 10, 2016 at 10:46 amI recently read with shock and surprise about the passing of Bruce. It is a sad day when someone as good as Bruce is taken from us. I have known Bruce for many years – many of them when I was a member of #33 F&AM. I have known many Masons who say that they are Masons but whose actions speak otherwise. Bruce was not one of these. Rather, Bruce was someone whose actions and works were true Masonic exemplars. To me, he was the gold standard of Masonry. More than that, he was someone that I could talk with and ask questions of when I was in the East.
I have since left Masonry but I have never forgotten Bruce. He was always that person that I could point to and say – that is what a man should be like.
It is said that no man is ever forgotten whose name is spoken. With that in mind, I say “Bruce Pettit” – may we never forget you.
