Bruce D. Cheney

Age 83, of DeWitt, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on January 7, 2015.  Bruce was a devoted family man and Science Education professor at MSU. He was a woodworker and furniture builder who was proud to have all ten fingers at his advanced age. Bruce was a community volunteer, a man of faith, a thoughtful listener, counselor and friend.  He had a generous nature and loved to make people laugh. As a life-long Boy Scout, he could “tie a knot for any occasion!”

Bruce is survived by his wife Peg, three daughters and sons-in-law, 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren (almost 10!).

A memorial service will be held by his friend and Pastor Kirk R. Miller at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church of Holt.  To honor Bruce, donations can be made to his church.  Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.

We are sad to read about the passing of your dad. Praying for you all for God’s comfort and continued hope in the resurrection to keep you all going strong for Him. Heaven is for real! I Thessalonians 5:13-18.
It is special for me to look back at my days at MSU, pursuing Child Development and Teaching and to have this vague memory of somehow having Dr. Cheney as one of my professors. Somehow I picture him in N. Kedzie Hall in one of the lecture halls. Perhaps TE101! (I could be wrong, but I simply enjoy this little memory!)
It is also special to me to have gotten to know both Dr. & Mrs. Cheney over the years because I got to know you, Gwen! God had our lives meet, spend time, go different directions, yet cross paths again and again. Seeing Dr. & Mrs. Cheney at places such as Meijer in the produce section, or wherever, was always a treat! His smile and caring words will always be remembered!

How sad to hear the news. I can’t believe that Bruce is gone. We can’t live forever, but the impact he had on his students will. I worked with Bruce on many projects and walked away learning something from him every time. He shared his wisdom gently and with humor. The ideas he taught me I have passed on to my students and I am sure they have passed them on to their students. Bruce will be greatly missed. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.

I was so sad to hear about Uncle Bruce. He was wonderful man and we will all miss him. Words are never adequate in moments like these but I will always remember Uncle Bruce at the family reunion. What a fun part of it he was with his silly sense of humor and wacky science experiments. I was extremely grateful for Bruce, Peggy’s, Gwen’s, Gretchen’s, and the whole family’s support during the memorial service for my grandfather.

I deeply regret that I could not pay my respects in person. Please accept my heartfelt sympathies and prayers. I know your faith and memories of Uncle Bruce will sustain and bring comfort during this unhappy time. Matthew 11:28.
