Barbara J. Hedgecock

Barb, of Lansing, MI, was born on July 13, 1931 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and died on February 18, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John, her parents, and four siblings.

She is survived by her two daughters, Dawn (Dean Bragg) Hedgecock and Sandy (Bill) Burtch; two grandchildren, Jeff (Cathy) Burtch and Keri (George) Rozansky; one great-grandson, Georgie Rozansky; sister, Donna (Jim) Dibble; and brothers, Bert (Barb) Sluyter, Bob (Glenda) Sluyter, Dick (Sue) Sluyter, and Mike Sluyter.

Barb retired from the Michigan State Police Records Section. She enjoyed spending summers at Sandy Pines RV Park in Hopkins, Michigan. Barb was an avid reader, sometimes reading a book a day, a connoisseur of crossword puzzles, and a master of the needle arts, creating beautiful pieces for family and friends. A favorite pastime was cheering on her beloved Detroit Tigers – Bless You Boys!

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Gunnisonville Meadows Senior Assisted Living Facility for the loving care they provided to our mother in her final days.

The funeral service will be held at the Estes-Leadley Funeral Home Greater Lansing Chapel on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. Family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time on Tuesday. In Lieu of flowers donations in Barb’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, or Paralyzed Veterans of America.

I remember fondly the years Barb and I worked together in the Records Section. She was a great person and a hard worker, upon whom I counted for great advice. I’m sad to see that she has passed, but will assured that there’s another angel looking down on us from a Heavenly perch. God Speed, Barb!
