Assunta L. “Susie” Pecora

Assunta L. Pecora, 98, passed away peacefully in her home on Oct. 2, 2016.

Assunta “Susie” was born in Cosenza, Italy, daughter of Luigi & Filomena (Bozzo) Baldino. She immigrated to the United States in August 1937 and worked alongside her father in their family grocery story on Willow Street. She ‘.vas wedded to Vincent Pecora on October 4, 1941, a loving marriage they enjoyed until his death in 1968. Assunta and Vincent (also known as “Jim”) were life partners and business partners in their own grocery stores – Northtown Grocery and Jim’s Food Market – in Lansing for many years.

Assunta had a true passion for cooking, following politics her entire life, and will be remembered for her generous loving nature and sweet disposition by all who knew her.

Besides her husband, Assunta was preceded in death by her son, James.

She is survived by children, Gina Pecora, John (Aileen) Pecora and Jerry (Jo Nell) Pecora; daughter-in-law, Gloria; grandchildren, Kathleen (James) Ellis, James V. (Sandra) Pecora, Joanna (Danny Harris) Scott, Dana E. (Craig Dabrowski) Kowalski, Kristina Pecora, Vincent (Jackie) Pecora, Dominic Pecora, Joseph Pecora and Andrew Pecora; and great-grandchildren, Anthony and Katelyn Ellis.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at St. Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour Ave., Lansing. Rite of Committal follows at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 5 2016, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel (W. Washtenaw St).
