Lyle C. Townsend

On Thursday, August 18, 2011, Lyle went home to be with his Heavenly Father, at the age of 87.  He was born April 22, 1924 in White Oak Township, the son of Earl and Marion Townsend.  Lyle served proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII.  He graduated from Dansville High School and Lansing Business College, and retired from Leaseway Transportation after 39 years.  He was a lifelong member of South Church in Lansing.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Barbara Townsend; daughter, Lou Ann (Mark) Sellers; grandson, Joseph Townsend; and sister, Islia Brandell.  He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Jo Townsend; brother, Bruce; and sisters, Roberta and Wilma.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Pastor Lewis Wood officiating.  Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service.

Uncle Lyle, Thank you for your military service to America during WWII and for being a great role model in my life.

Only his father, Earl Townsend, could catch trout better than Uncle Lyle.
