Anna Mae Spencer

Age 78, passed away, Sunday, January 30, 2011, in Lansing.  She was born September 13, 1932, in Almont, Michigan to Clyde and Gladys Spencer.

Anna Mae was the Salutatorian of her high school class, and in 1950 received a State of Michigan Scholarship to Michigan State College, and graduated in 1954 with a B.S. degree in Medical Technology from the College of Veterinary Medicine.  She later returned to Michigan State University and in 1972 received a M.S. degree in Laboratory Science from the School of Human Medicine. Anna Mae’s first employment  was at St. Lawrence Hospital and soon after went to work at Sparrow Hospital where she worked for 30 years as a Medical Technologist and became an administrator in Hematology.  She was on the Lansing Police Department Advisory Board, South Precinct, and Old Everett Neighborhood Association.  Even in retirement she worked at Lansing General Hospital, was working towards an Associate Degree in Fine Arts from Lansing Community College, and ran a home business called Treetops Studio, in which she did water color painting and photography.  Anna Mae was a true Spartan fan, loved Michigan State University, and was a supporter of many of their programs.

She is survived by a sister Jennie (Douglas) Sollman of Imlay City; a brother Rockne (Mary) Spencer of Troy; a sister-in-law Jean Spencer; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: John (Betty) Spencer, Lowell Spencer, and William Spencer.

The funeral for Anna Mae Spencer will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, February 4, 2011, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, 2121 N. Cedar St., Holt, Michigan, interment will be in the Ferguson Cemetery, Almont, Michigan.  Visitation for family and friends will be 1:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorial donations may be made to the Capitol Area Humane Society.
