Harry T. Haasch

Holt, Michigan

Harry passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Stoneleigh – Hospice of Lansing. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol; daughter, Sue Carpenter of Holt; son, Harry “Hap” Haasch and daughter-in-law Sue of Richland, MI; sisters, Joyce Krause and Phyllis Walloway of Menominee, MI; grandchildren, Colin Carpenter, Kelsey, Haley and Shannon Haasch; sister-in-law, Jeanine Haasch of Menominee, MI; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Kim Lubbers and Andrelle Isbell.

Harry was born December 29, 1928, in Menominee, MI, a place that remained dear to his heart his entire life.

After high school, Harry sailed on Great Lakes freighters for two years; instead of driving over the Mackinaw Bridge on opening day, he steered one of the first ships under it, and that experience became a favorite story to tell.  He was then drafted into the U.S. Army, serving at Fort Worden, WA.  After an honorable discharge, he enrolled at Michigan State Normal College (Eastern Michigan University). Upon graduation, Harry began his career with the United States Social Security Administration, retiring in 1992.  After retirement, he enjoyed reading, golf, outdoor activities, and spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.  He also spent many hours supporting the Holt Kiwanis Club and it’s activities and volunteering for more than twelve years with Meals on Wheels.

Harry’s kind, gentle nature and dry wit will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him.  Visitation will be at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel on Thursday, June 30, 2016, from 5 – 8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Salvation Army.  Harry’s family would like to express their gratitude to the Craft Care Home of Holt, Grace Hospice, and to the Stoneleigh Hospice House for the wonderful attention he received while in their care.

Carol & kids ……..

So sorry for your and the rest of our Family’s loss. He was a gentleman (like the rest of the Haasch boys). I for sure wish I could’ve known him better, if, for no other reason, he was a Haasch. What a family ……… oh my.
