Betty Jean Mitchell

Lansing, MI

Betty Jean Mitchell, beloved daughter, sister and mother, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 15, 2015. She was 63 years old and was born on June 9, 1952, in Lansing, Michigan, to Naomi (Mitchell) Buckley and Charles Thompson.

Betty attended J.W. Sexton High School and graduated in 1970. She then went on to attend Lansing Community College. Betty loved her friends and family and enjoyed decorating, but her greatest loves were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Betty held various jobs in Lansing, including working at General Motors and Consumers Energy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Thompson; stepfather, Howard Buckley, Jr.; brother, Gilbert Buckley; and nephew, Jimmy Buckley.

She leaves to forever cherish her memory: her two daughters, Tiffeny and Nautalia Mitchell; two sons, Timothy and DarQuan Mitchell; six grandkids; and four great-grandchildren. In addition, she also leaves her mother, Mrs. Naomi Buckley; three brothers, John M. Mitchell, Timothy Buckley and Joe Buckley; five sisters, Alicia (David) Evans, CheyAnne Armstrong, Alice Buckley-King, Diann Buckley and Charlie Buckley; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2015, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memory Gardens in Okemos. The family hour will be from 12-1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
