Peggy Ann Brown

Peggy Ann Brown, age 83, of Holt, Michigan, left this life July 23, 2015, to be reunited with her parents. She was born in Pontiac, Michigan, on August 9, 1931, to Fred L. and Margurite Green. She is survived by her daughter Michele Brown and son-in-law Bobby Groschke.

Her public schooling included many schools throughout Michigan as her father was in suspension bridge construction for E. C. Nolan Construction Co. She proudly graduated from Pontiac Senior High School in 1949. She continued her education at Eastern Michigan University, receiving a teaching degree and occupational therapy degree. She later received her master’s degree in education at Eastern Michigan University. While at Eastern she joined Alpha Sigma Sorority. Her teaching degree took her first to Nankin Township for two years, then to Northville, Michigan for three years, and eventually to Holt, Michigan for thirty-five years. Part of her teaching duties was serving as math chairman at the middle school for nearly as long as she taught math. Serving as coach for the Equations Team for many years was a joy. She presented math workshops for MCTM throughout Michigan and she published a metric workbook for students in elementary through middle school. She gave a knockout speech to the Insurance Women of Michigan. You’ve Come a Long Way Baby!

She served as a docent at the Michigan State Art Museum; enjoyed many luncheons with the HELO Club members; worked on the state, local and national elections in Holt for years; and was a part of great discussions at the Holt Library book discussions groups.

Yearly trips to the Bahamas with Evans made her springs complete. MSU football games brought out the entertainment genie, so Evans and Peg had a pregame spread for their friends and associates. Christmas was always a reason to have a yearly Christmas party first in the early years at the City Club of Lansing and then later at the University Club.

After retirement she filled in her spare time managing twelve rental units.

Her love of her Pugs was known far and wide. Her house was not a home without her Chinese Pug.

There will be a celebration of both Peggy and Evans’ lives held late in 2015. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society. Arrangements are by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.

Mrs. Brown was my 6th grade teacher. I learned more from her than any other teacher. She was tough but fair and i appreciate her skills. I also babysat for her daughter on a few occasions. RIP Mrs. Brown

It was an honor to work with Peg Brown, though for only a few years of her distinguished career. Thank you for the glimpse into Peg’s life and loves. May she rest in peace.
