Donnabelle Lee (Pitts) Smith

April 5, 1922 – July 15, 2015

Donnabelle “Donnye” of Venice, Florida, formerly of Lansing, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home in Venice, FL, on July 15, 2015, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.  Donnye was born in Barryton, Michigan, to Clara and Caleb Pitts and was the youngest of seven children.  The family moved to Lansing, Michigan, in 1927 where Donnye grew up and graduated from Lansing Central High School.  Donnye had a 25-year career at the Board of Water and Light before retiring in 1985.

Donnye was preceded in death by her parents Clara and Caleb Pitts, husband Casper, all of her six siblings, son Curtiss and daughter-in-law Sharon, granddaughter Pamela Weber and grandson Pat Knight.  She is survived by children Jeff Dibble (Marylynn) of Gulf Shores, AL, Shayne Weber of Venice, FL, six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Donnye was a fun-loving and kind person who enjoyed life.  She will be missed by everyone who came in contact with her beautiful smile and generous spirit.

Her family and friends will celebrate her life with a Memorial Service at Estes-Leadley Funeral Home (Lansing Chapel), 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing MI 48933 at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2015.   Interment at East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos, MI, will follow the service. Viewing will take place at the Estes-Leadley Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank the Tidewell Venice Hospice team of Kathy, Caitlyn, Jennifer, Donna and Flo who took such good care of Donnye over the last fifteen months.

So sorry to learn of the death of our aunt. Always one to enjoy a good time and the company of friends and family, she will be missed by all who knew her.

With tears I type as I remember fondly this charming, wonderful person. She brought many smiles into my life and will always be one of my favorite people to reminisce about until we meet again…
