Janette M. Macklin

Holt, Michigan

Janette M. Macklin was the second of four children born to Philmore and Christine Cuff on March 22, 1937, in Bluefield, VA. She was educated in the Bluefield school district where she excelled academically. Philmore and Christine decided to move the family to Detroit, MI, in 1951, in search of better opportunities for employment.

Faith was important to Janette. She always followed a Christian doctrine. In the early 1980s Janette became a faithful member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, actively participating until the end.

Family was also very important to her. She had a very close-knit bond with her sisters, as they were affectionately known as “the Cuff Girls.” After high school, she married and had two beautiful children – Michelle Janette and Jay Cee.

Janette had many skills. She paid close attention to detail, loved to shop, and was an impeccable dresser with a keen sense of style. She was also smart; she secured a job with the U.S. Government in the computer operations department at Tank Command (TACOM) in Warren, MI where she had a successful career. TACOM is also where she met the love of her life, Harrison K. Macklin. They courted, married and forged a beautiful life together. Janette and Harrison loved to travel, often taking family members with them on their journeys.

Family gatherings were common with the Cuff Girls. Anyone that dropped by was treated with good food and good times. Janette was an Excellent cook! She was known for her down home meals, homemade rolls and delectable desserts. The children could always count on her for words of wisdom, life lessons and a friendly game of Old Maid. She was also a stickler for details. She had a knack for getting to the bottom of any situation by obtaining information others could not. One of her favorite mottos was “Be Sweet, Loving and Kind!” She not only taught kindness, she lived it. Janette helped to take care of her mother and mother-in-law during their convalescence in their declining years.

In 2006 Janette and Harrison moved to Holt, MI, to live with their daughter Michelle and her family.

She departed this life July 13, 2015.

She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory: her devoted husband of 46 years, Harrison K. Macklin; her daughter, Michelle (Joseph); her grandchildren, Janelle Marie, Jordan Matthew and Joshua Ryan of Holt, MI; her brother-in-law, Ronald White of Silverspring, MD; her nieces, J. Yvette Watts (Ralph), Tawaunna London (Miller) of Detroit, MI; her nephew, Kevin White of Silverspring, MD; and a host of other relatives and friends. Her parents, son Jay Cee, and sisters Jewell, Dana and Phyllis all preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with the family hour beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
