Pondo "Pete" Dines

Pondo “Pete”  Dines passed away suddenly on November 26, 2014, in Merrillville, Indiana.  Born in Battle Creek, Michigan, on March 28, 1930, he resided in Lansing for most of his life.  He served in the U.S. Army, was a member of the American Legion and a member of the American Bulgarian Macedonian Club.  He retired from a long career with the State of Michigan Department of Transportation.   The whirlpool at the Club, chicken and rice, Lions football, and finding the best deal in town were a few of his favorite pastimes.

He was predeceased by his parents, and two brothers, Ted and Steve.  Surviving are his loving sister, Mary; his nieces and nephews, known as his “kids”,  Jimmy, Nicholas, Joan, Richard, Terry, Garry, Dana, Kalina and Charissa; several great nieces and nephews, and many life-long friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with Panikhida services at 7:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at St. Andrew Orthodox Catholic Church, 1216 Greencrest Avenue, East Lansing, at 10:00 a.m., with interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Our deepest Sympathy goes out to his sister Mary,Terry and the rest of his family along with his very dear friend Sandi who cared so much for pete and his well being. We had just spoke to him on the phone and God called him home very quickly. Rest In Piece Pete!

Pete Dines always assisted me with a smile and good advice during my career with him at MDOT. He was one of my favorite people. His work here is done now. RIP Pete. My sincerest and deepest condolence to the family.
