Dr. Robert Jay "Bob" Lichtman
Dr. Robert Jay Lichtman, 66, died from brain cancer November 1, 2014, at Woodland Hospice in Mount Pleasant, MI.
Robert was born on Dec. 22, 1947, in Wilmette, Il., the youngest son of Harry and Susanne (Kalom) Lichtman. He was married to Mary Pat Housley on February 18, 2005.
Robert was an avid bird watcher and photographer. He compiled a portfolio of hundreds of bird and wildlife photos in print and digital formats. He attended photography tours of wildlife areas in Arizona, Florida, and Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. Even after his health deteriorated, he liked nothing better than sitting in his back yard and photographing birds.
He and his wife Mary Pat enjoyed traveling to numerous birding areas across the United States. He enjoyed reading and being with friends, as well as working on photos. He was well versed in current events and could offer historical perspectives on many topics. He loved music of all kinds and was a movie buff. His quick wit enriched many conversations with humor and insights.
He graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Il., in 1966. He completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1971 at Michigan State University. He earned a master’s degree in 1973 and doctorate in 1977 in industrial/organizational psychology at Louisiana State University.
As a professor at the University of Wisconsin, Memphis State University ,and Central Michigan University, he taught organizational behavior, general management, and human resource management. He also developed and taught online courses at CMU, Grand Canyon University, and the University of Phoenix, and was a consultant to businesses.
He had a passion and talent for building computers, and was able to help individuals, area businesses, and schools with his expertise. He also provided many hours of complementary computer consulting for individuals in the central Michigan area.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice, or Isabella County Commission on Aging.
