Howard Joseph Martin

Age 92, of Lansing, MI, passed away October 31, 2013.  He was born September 29, 1921, in Lake City, PA.  Howard graduated from Reid Township High School in 1939, and joined the military.  While in the U.S. Army, he was relocated to Lansing, where he met and married Yvonne DuBreuil in 1943. After being discharged from the military, he was employed at the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1978, and was a member and former president of the local postal clerk union.

Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Eloise in 2012; his parents, David and Ellen (Lance) Martin; brothers, George and Alfred Martin; and sister, Selma Carnahan-Mercer.  Surviving are:  4 children, Linda (Richard) Busse, Ellen Acker, Nancy Martin and Peggy DiOrio; 5 grandchildren, Scott, Gary, and Michael (Shari) Acker, Mary (Shawn) Kinser, and Nick (Adel) DiOrio; 6 great-grandchildren, Ashley and Evan Acker, Michael and Justin DiOrio, James and Greta Kinser; and sister-in-law, Elsie Martin-Keith.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 3827 Delta River Dr., Lansing.  The family will receive friend at the church from 2:00 p.m. until service time on Tuesday.  In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in memory of Howard J. Martin.

My sympathy goes out to the family of Howard. I so much enjoyed corresponding with Yvonne and Howard about the Henderson family history. I am so thankyou for all the generous sharing of all the research and family stories they provided. Sincerely, John Henderson
