Zella Lou Holcomb

Zella Lou Holcomb went to be with the Lord she loved on May 7, 2014.  She was 93 years old.  She was a longtime resident of Lansing, Michigan, but for the past 3 years she lived in Jacksonville, Florida.

Zella lived on Hemlock Place in Colonial Village for 50 years and her grandson Billy nicknamed her, “The Rock of Hemlock.”  Zella retired from the Lansing School District where she was a cafeteria worker at Dwight Rich Middle School.  She spent time volunteering at many local bingo games.  She was a member of South Baptist Church for 60 years and a more recent member of Fort Caroline Baptist Church in Jacksonville.  Her favorite bible verse was Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Zella loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren.  She loved word searches and she loved to color with her great-grandchildren.

Zella, nicknamed GG, was preceded in death by 6 sisters and 2 brothers, her husband Robert, of 54 years, and her son William.  She is survived by her son Tom (Suzanne) of Jacksonville, daughter Brenda Harvey of Lansing, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 11, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel at 325 Washtenaw St.  Funeral services will be held Monday, May 12, 2014 at South Church at 5250 Cornerstone Dr. at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ben Cuthbert officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to United Cerebral Palsy of Michigan or the National Parkinson Foundation.

So sorry to read about your Mom (and Grandma). We appreciate how much she meant to all of you.

Just leaving Ricky’s place in Grand Rapids area and had hoped to be with you today. So sorry we were not. We were sharing great baseball and bingo stories with our family – stories that included you and your family. Fond memories of everything you have done for us.

We miss you and are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Go Cubs!
