Virginia M. Bozek

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the road less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.”

Virginia Margaret Bozek, born October 9, 1925 in Big Rapids, MI to Russell M. Brown and Emilie M. Candler, died December 20, 2011. She was of East Lansing.

She graduated from Sexton High School and graduated from Michigan State College in 1947.  She was a member of Chi Omega, where she made lifelong friends.

She married Lewis E. Bozek on February 28, 1948.  While raising their family they lived in the Philippines, Cuba, Florida, finally settling in East Lansing in 1961.  She began her teaching career in 1964 at East Lansing High School in the English Department.  She earned her Masters of Education and went on to become one of first teachers in the state of Michigan to earn her bilingual certification in English and Spanish.

She had an adventurous spirit and lead a full life; from her dedication to her family, eternal interest in learning and teaching others, love for animals, and zest for travel to her efforts to change the world for everyone. In her own words, from one of her many letters to the editor, “Good education and good health contribute to offering an equal opportunity to all. Together we can make a difference.”

She is survived by her children, Greg (Ingrid) Bozek and Margaret (Mark) Klotz; grandchildren, Lex Bozek, Michael Bozek, Victoria Bozek, Samuel Bozek, Ann Wronikowski, Katherine Klotz, Emilie Bozek and Josephine (Kam) Stocks; great-grandchildren, Quinton and Leah Wronikowski; sister, Joanna Brown; brother, Russell (Dorris) Brown; and nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband Lewis E. Bozek, son Gary E. Bozek and grandson Demetrius Bozek.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lansing City Rescue Mission, 607 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, MI 48912.

To Virginia’s Family,
What a great loss. I am so sorry to hear about your Mom & Grandma. She was a wonderful friend, so knowledgable, such a great help in Spanish group, and always worried about everyone else, not herself. She is dearly missed.
