Roger L. Frayre

Roger Lewis Frayre, age 77, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at his home in Lansing, Michigan with his family. Roger was born May 27, 1937 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to the late Anthony Panfilo Frayre and Bernice (Foutch) Frayre.  Roger was also preceded in death by his loving grandparents, May and Floyd Foutch.

Roger worked in Quality Control at General Motors Fisher Body Plant in Lansing until 2000. Roger married his High School sweetheart Marilyn Jo (Dargitz) Frayre in 1956 in Clare, Michigan.  Marilyn and his family were precious to him and he was dearly loved in return.

Roger and Marilyn enjoyed their trips around Michigan, neighboring states, Canada and beyond. They needed to know what was over the next hill and down the little road, making a lot of adventures together.

Roger attended many dirt track Sprint races and he enjoyed older motorcycles, his Mega Mall booth, singing, and working in his yard.

from Jack Lampman, Lansing & MPHS ’58. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Some members of our class of 1958 send Emails to keep us informed of MPHS past and presents activities. I posted a link to Roger’s obituary and Bob Lovejoy of our MPHS class sent the following response. I thought that Roger’s family should see these great words.
Bob wrote ” Roger Frayre was one of the finest athletes ever to wear Oiler Blue and Gold. He graduated 1955, played football with the likes of Mike Sweeney, Bud Foltz, Jerry Wiley and those that were State Champs 1953. He also played basketball, ran track, played baseball and tennis. He won more Varsity Letters than any other athlete to come out of MPHS. When we were Freshman, on a Saturday in May, 1955, Roger ran two relays in a track meet at CMC, won his tennis match at Island Park and pitched a 7 inning baseball game at the Park as that was our varsity field. That year he won 5 Varsity Letters. He also played baseball for CMU and played minor league baseball before his career in Lansing. I was on the Hall of Fame committee when Roger was inducted. His Dad was a cook at Falsetta’s Casa Nova. He became Bob Howard’s brother-in-law when Bob married Dianne. Roger was really good person”
