Marjory M. Barnhart Platte

Age 87, passed away December 27, 2014.  She was born February 24, 1927, in Lansing.  Marge was a very proud employee of Holt Public Schools from 1957, when she began, until her official retirement in 1982.  After a short retirement period, Marge began to substitute wherever she was needed throughout the district for a total of over 50 years of dedicated service.  The Holt Education Foundation honored her as Alumna of the Year in 1997.  Marge was a member of Holmes Road Church of Christ in Lansing.  She was also active for many years with the Holt Rotary Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the 40 et 8.  Marge loved to spend her time with family and friends playing cards, fishing, bowling and helping others.  Marge’s family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were a very fulfilling part of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lena Ferris and Oscar Veelman; and son, Terry Barnhart.  Surviving are:  son, Gary R. (Carol) Barnhart of Holt; daughter, Debra J. (Paul) Oliver of Belfast, TN (formerly of Williamston and Holt); grandchildren, Kimberly (Dave) Wood of Lansing, Korey (Tom) Wheeler of Mason, Todd Barnhart, Bruce Barnhart, Billy Barnhart, Mike Barnhart, all of Arizona, Courtney Oliver and husband John Fellers of Tennessee, and Kelly Oliver and husband Adam Johnson of Leroy.  She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, very special friends of over 50 years, Tony and Shirley Coscarella, who helped see her through to the end of her journey home.

Mom was blessed in her final days to be cared for at the Eaton Community Palliative Care facility in Charlotte.  We are so thankful to the kind and caring staff who helped her and the family find peace at such a difficult time.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at the Holmes Road Church of Christ, 321 E. Holmes Road, Lansing, MI 48910, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations, in memory of Marjory Platte, to Eaton Community Palliative Care, 2675 S. Cochran, Charlotte, MI  48813.  Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.

Deb and family, we are so sad to learn of your mothers passing. You are fortunate to have had her with you for such a long time. Loved playing cards with her.

All the best in this difficult time,
Sandy and Merlin
