Marilyn Lou Cone

Lansing, Michigan

Mary Lou was born in Lansing, Michigan on May 28, 1930 to Doris and Orton Greenman, the second of their two daughters. She went to be with his Lord on May 20, 2015. She graduated from Holt High School in 1948 and married the love of her life Donald Robert Cone on September 11, 1948.

Mary Lou and Don raised four daughters:  Lynanne Marie Brouder (deceased), Susan (Steven) Pung, Debra (Fred) Kurtz and Doris Holmberg.  Their family grew to include 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  She treasured time with her family.

After years of being a stay-at-home mother, Mary Lou started college the year her youngest daughter started kindergarten and graduated from Michigan State University the same year her oldest daughter graduated from high school.  She went on to teach business and supervise the co-op program at Waverly High School.  She continued her education by completing a master’s and specialist’s degree from MSU.

Over her lifetime Mary Lou had an active church life.  She most recently enjoyed worshipping, singing, and socializing with her church family at Nevins Lake Church. She had fond memories of trips to Alaska to visit her sister Jacqué Greenman, winters in Florida, international travel, and summers on both Derby Lake and Half Moon Lake.  She especially enjoyed driving the speed boat at Derby Lake while her family water skied.

Mary Lou’s funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2015, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with Pastor Dennis Ross officiating.  Interment will take place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Nevins Lake Church, 837 S. Nevins Rd., Stanton, MI 48888 or Hometown Hospice.

I am so sorry for your loss. My childhood memories of our families Robbins Road neighborhood interactions are still very vivid. You mother was not only a beautiful woman, but she was a beautiful person with such a warm heart. I hope you are able to focus on your wonderful memories of her to help you through this difficult time.
