Marie Bork, of Lansing, MI, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the age of 102. She was born on April 13, 1911 in Lincoln, Nebraska the first of 9 children to Charlotte and Adam Brumm. She and William Bork were married on May 27, 1934 in the midst of the Great Depression. They celebrated 63 years of marriage before his death in 1997.
They had 4 children – Frederick Bork, Paul Bork, Jonathan (Mary Caterino) Bork, and Ann (Michael) Spezia. She had 12 grandchildren – Michael (Dawn) Bork, Jonathan (Jennifer) Bork, Frederick (Dianna) Bork, David (Robin) Bork, Christina (Scott) Nelson, Eric Bork, Dwight Irons, Lisa (Jeff) Varinek, Caroline (Steve) Mathson, Robert Bork, Benjamin (Andrea) Miller and Andrew Miller. She also had 19 great-grandchildren.
She and Bill moved to Lansing in 1940 where he eventually became a carpenter and they became founding members of Our Savior Lutheran Church and School.
Marie was a talented baker, cook, and gardener and devoted herself to her family, friends and neighbors. She worked for the Lansing Board of Education at Otto Middle School for many years as a book keeper and upon retiring volunteered at the Salvation Army for many more years.
She was strong, funny, and the hardest worker and best mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. After Bill died she was lovingly taken care of first by her son Fred and then Paul also came to help. She will be sorely missed.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2013, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 7910 East St. Joe Hwy., Lansing. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel and from 10-11 a.m. on Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Education Fund.
