Margaret L. “Peggy” Peckham

Peggy PeckhamMargaret Peckham, 62, died surrounded by those who love her on November 8, 2016 in Naperville, IL following a short but valiant battle with cancer. She lived each day with grace, humor, and the desire to treat others the way she wished to be treated. Peggy loved theatre, travel, reading, and, most of all, shopping for a good bargain.

Peggy was preceded in death by her mother Alice (Regan) Peckham, father Earl Peckham, sister Patricia Dunham, and aunt Lyla Regan. She is survived by her husband of 28 years Tom Krashen, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Carol Krashen, of Naperville, and her niece and nephew Nicole Krashen and Mike Krashen, both of Chicago.

Peggy retired in April 2015 following 29 years of service with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Her job, and her passion, was helping establish community-based programs known as PACE (Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), which provide medical and social services to the frail and elderly. Following retirement, she and her husband had moved from Haslett to Sarasota, FL.

The family would like to acknowledge the extraordinary care and kindness she received from the wonderful doctors, nurses, and other professionals at the Edward Cancer Center and at Seasons Hospice in Naperville.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2016, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.  Her family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday.  In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for any contributions made to the “Edward Foundation” for “Edward Cancer Center,” 801 S. Washington St. Naperville, IL 60540 or online at https://www.eehealth.org/ways-to-give/edward-foundation/donate. Please specify that gifts are in the memory of Margaret Peckham.

So sad to hear of this loss. Peggy was a wonderful person and great co-worker. It’s hard to see someone who took such good care of herself to be taken away with cancer. She tried to do everything right which makes this so unfair for her to be gone this soon. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

Very sorry to hear of this news. In the 8 years I worked with Peggy, it was such a joy to get to know her and I miss our long chats about theater and travel. I only wish she had more time to enjoy it all. My thoughts are with you all.

Tom, I am so sad to learn of your loss, which affects so many of us. Back in the day, I worked with Peggy in a dental office in Grand Ledge that had 2 dentists. She with one and I was with the other. I still keep in touch with the staff from that office, almost 40 years later. How awesome that our paths crossed again when she came to Medicaid, and though I never worked directly with her there, when the hygienists got together, she made many of those dinners, including one in April 2015. I’ll send you that photo. Please accept my most sincere sympathy and hopes that you are able to be comforted a bit when you remember the wonderful years you two had together and how much Peggy was loved by so many. My heart is aching for you.

Peggy was a true inspiration. The passion and dedication which she showed to the operation of the state’s PACE program was without measure and exemplar of what it really means to care. The fact that it took four people to fill Peggy’s role when she retired speaks volumes to the amount of effort she put forth in her position and I think one can only perform at that level if what fuels them is a unwavering care and love for those they are serving. I remember Peggy always striving to provide those enrolled in her PACE program, those who our society tends to undervalue and cast aside, with a level of medical and personal care that not only showed they are still respected, but also cared for. Peggy you should be commended and I hope you are remembered for the love and kindness you showed to others.

I am very sorry to hear of Peggy’s passing. I had the opportunity to work with her as we developed the PACE program in Southwest Michigan. Peggy was dedicated and compassionate about the work she did for the frail and elderly. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time. May God bring you and your family comfort knowing how much Peggy impacted other people during her life.
