Margaret Jean Krause

Age 99, of Grand Ledge, MI, passed away August 19, 2013. She was born May 19, 1914, in Chicago, IL, daughter of James and Mary Ferguson. At the age of 6, she moved with her family to Saginaw, MI. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School. Jean attended CampFire Girls camps as a young girl and also enjoyed performing Scottish dancing. She worked for Schauble News until marrying Fred Krause in August 1938.

After WWII, they lived in Lansing, with their son Gilbert. Jean was a busy mother and housewife. She was active with Plymouth Congregational Church in their library and the Mayflower Circle. Starting in the 1950s, Jean began volunteering with the Red Cross, where she served for 40 years. In the ‘60s she worked for local and national elections. In 2005, Jean and her husband Fred moved to Independence Village in Grand Ledge until their deaths. While there, Jean worked for the library.

She is survived by her son Gilbert Krause and his wife Kathy of The Villages, FL; grandchildren, Sandra Jean, Brian Jacob and his wife Denise, Michael Allan and his wife Katie; 4 great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Ryder, Emily and Reid; and sister, Jessie Trommer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, in 2009.

A private service will be held out of town at a later date. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.
