Margaret E. Metzger

Margaret E. Metzger, age 89, of Lansing, MI, passed away on August 18, 2014. She was born July 14, 1925 in Portland, Michigan, daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Smith.

Margaret graduated from the Saint Lawrence School of Nursing in 1947 and was an RN at Saint Lawrence Hospital until 1955 when she became a full-time homemaker with the birth of her first son.

Margaret was a kind and caring person who loved her family and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was an active member at Zion Lutheran Church serving as a Sunday school teacher for over 20 years.  She enjoyed sewing and many forms of arts and crafts and always had several projects going at the same time. She also enjoyed traveling, nature walks, baking, gardening and visiting with family and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Wally. Surviving are sons David (Debbie) and Daniel, daughters Mary (Greg) Hyatt and Martha (Clark) Brown, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 21 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw, Lansing.  The funeral service will be held Friday, August 22, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4001 S. Pennsylvania, Lansing, with a one hour visitation prior to the funeral service.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association – Great Lakes Chapter.
