Loujinia Ruth "Ginny" Wheat

Ginny passed peacefully from this world at the age of 90 on December 13, 2014.  She was born May 5, 1924 in Dresden, TN to Thomas Edward & Susan Alva (Woodruff) Capps.  Shortly after her mother’s death, she was given to her oldest brother Casey & his wife Susan Elizabeth Capps and together they raised her and she became a beautiful, compassionate young woman. She was currently of DeWitt, Michigan.

On March 10, 1949 she married Marlon Ralph Wheat and he preceded her in death on July 22, 2014.  Ginny’s life was dedicated to taking care of her small family with all the passion and vigor the Good Lord gave her.  She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ.  She retired as a Teamster from Anchor Motor Freight and spent her retirement years traveling back and forth from Michigan, Tennessee and Florida with her traveling “sister” Martha Maynard.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her son, Steven Ralph (Rebecca); chosen daughter, Nuzly Reeves; chosen granddaughters, Jessica Murnen, Sasha Reeves and Oksana Reeves; grandson, Cody Grant Wheat; great-grandson, Da’Chi Isaiah Wheat; nieces – “sisters,” Shirley (Duane) Patterson, Patsy Dunn and Suzanne Bell; and many more nieces and nephews.

Steve & Becky would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the kindness, compassion and professional care our “granny” received from Aunt Donna, all of the staff, caregivers, residents and families from Rosewood AFC of DeWitt and the Hometown Hospice Caregivers.  Thank you!

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel at 325 West Washtenaw Street, Lansing, MI  48933. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
