John "Jack" Hudson

Dimondale, Michigan

John “Jack” Hudson was born on February 19, 1934 and passed away on February 3, 2015.  He grew up in Caro, Michigan, where he met and married Carole (Brigham). He served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. John earned a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from Michigan State University. He became a teacher and was a guidance counselor at Lansing Eastern High School for more than 35 years.

John was a lifelong learner, always aspiring to gain understanding.  His passion for learning seemed to be surpassed only by his interest in helping others. The depth of his caring made him an exceptional counselor and friend, but also a loving husband, devoted father and cherished grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed.

One of his last wishes was for the right to choose a death with dignity on one’s own terms to become a reality for those who follow him.

John was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Marilyn Crane. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carole; four daughters, Jill (Gordon) Reynolds, Jan (John) Peralta, Julie (David) Kenyon and Shari (Ken) Dudley; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with the family receiving friends one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution to the Death with Dignity National Center, the Humane Society, or the charity of your choice, would be appreciated.

Dear Carole, Girls and family Members,
Jack and I were counseling colleagues in the Lansing School District for many, many years and friends since we first met. We had a mutual interest in his girls attending Hill High School where I worked. What beautiful children Carole and he raised. He would get that little proud grin whenever he talked about them and their lives.
Often, students from Eastern that I talked to would relate how much he had helped them when they were in distress. The positive ripple effect from his work with (and caring about) the young people lives on.
He used to stop by our house when going to and from the YMCA and liked to catch me working in my garage workshop. The profound discussions would flow with passion on topics such as religion (he was donkey stubborn), local, state and national issues, life, death and whatever was on his mind. We loved his visits, his mind, and his authentic affections and sharing. We will miss him like so many will.
We want to express our sadness to Carole, the girls, other family members as well as to his dear friends.

After more than 60 yrs of friendship it is difficult to let that special life go.

We have wonderful memories of our trips to Hawaii and that special porch in St.Cloud.

Blessings and sincere sympathies to Carole and their beautiful family
