Joanne Elaine Ladd

Lansing, Michigan

Joanne E. Ladd, 80, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan.  She was born in Lansing on August 9, 1936, and was raised in Holt, where she graduated from Holt High School in June 1954.  She moved to the Delta Township area in 1966 where she lived until her death.

Though she was primarily a homemaker, Joanne went to work for Montgomery Ward catalog department in 1969 and worked for them until their closure.

Joanne and her husband, Bob, enjoyed spending time at their lake front cottage on Houghton Lake and their winter place in Sebastian, Florida.  They traveled extensively to destinations around the US as well as Greece, Costa Rica, Panama Canal and Europe.  No matter where they traveled though, Lansing was always their home.

Joanne enjoyed reading, playing card games and watching comedy movies and TV.  She had many treasured friends including Margo (Smith) Rudd, Meredith Baird, Judy Durfee, and Gloria (Shaver) Phillips.  But above all, she considered herself a “professional grandma” to her 2 grandchildren and 6 great-grandsons.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Lila Field and her sons Steven Wayne Ladd and James Michael Ladd.  She is survived by her husband Robert, daughter Terri, granddaughter Melanie (Ken) Childs, grandson Alex Spicer and great-grandsons Dylan, Braxton, Taylor, James, Jaxson and Kennedy.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel.  Interment will follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery, Holt. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 21 from 2-4 p.m. and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given the Capital Area Humane Society.
