Jack Harold Jameson

Jack was born at Home in Lansing, Michigan on August 5, 1925, to S. Russell Jameson and Lucille Hamilton.  He left us on August 2, 2014.

He lived his entire life in Lansing area, until he married and built a home in DeWitt, Michigan, where he resided until his passing. Jack graduated from Eastern High School. Shortly after graduation, Uncle Sam called, and he served, with honor in WWII, in the Transportation Corps. He retired, after 39 ½ years from GM Oldsmobile.  Jack loved hunting, water skiing, racing (building engines) and NASCAR. Jack could do just about everything, from building two houses, (one at Otsego Lake), plumbing, electrical and even the cement, brick and block laying work, until his health prevented him from taking part in the various activities that he loved. Until his illness set in, he was a faithful member of Capital Lodge of S.O. #66, F. & A. M. and a Past Master of same.  He also was an officer in, until his illness, Capital Chapter #9, R.A.M. and Past High Priest, Lansing Council #29, R.&S.M. and Past Thrice Illustrious Master, Lansing Commandery #25, K.T. and Past Commander.  He was elected to the elite group of KYCH.  He was very proud to be a Mason.  When the Lansing Temple needed to have their roof changed from a flat roof to a pitched roof, Jack got volunteers to help him, and he designed, and made all the trusses.  He then got another Mason to volunteer to bring a crane to the Temple to set the trusses on the roof.  A two-year project he loved doing for his Temple and brother Masons.  This saved the building thousands of dollars, and stopped the leakage and made the building more secure and eye appealing.  The Lansing Association raised the money for the cost of the materials only, and the work was done by all volunteer labor.  Many thought he was crazy for taking on a 50′ X 100′ construction task.  He felt it was his duty and love of Masonry that made him take on the task.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Duane Jameson; two sisters, Ruth McNamara and Doris Yeo; and two grandsons, Steven Barrett and Kyle Karp.

He is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Shirley Anne; children, Denise (Randy) Gordon of Sault St. Marie, Michigan, Sandra Jameson, Dawn Groshong and Debra Karp of Lansing; four stepchildren, Maynard (Monica) Bigelow, Linda (David) Barrett, Frank (S. Barbara) Bigelow, James (Misty) Bigelow; one sister, Betty Ferris of Jackson, MI; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and of course, his babysitter, and companion, when Mom was away, Candy Anne Jameson (Our puppy dog).

A very special thank you to the staff of Hospice Advantage, and his nurse from Hospice, Beth and our Aide, Anita.  Their caring staff made life more bearable toward the end.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at North Westminster Presbyterian Church, 743 N. M.L.K. Jr., Blvd., Lansing, with The Rev. Timothy Chon officiating.  Interment will follow in the Masonic Garden at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. An Escort by Lansing Commandery #25, K.T. will be provided. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday at the church.
