Frederick Otto Marzke

Age 94, of Lansing, passed away on November 3, 2012 in Rochester Hills, Michigan.  Fred was born in Lansing, Michigan on July 28, 1918 to Ida and Otto Marzke. His brothers, Robert, Oscar and Carl and his sister, Dorothy Paige, predeceased him.

He graduated from Lansing Central High School and received his Bachelor of Science and his Ph.D. in zoology from Michigan State College, now MSU.   Fred served in an Air Force medical unit in Victorville, CA during World War II.  He was employed as a research entomologist for the US Dept. of Agriculture in Savannah, GA, Madison, WI and Gainesville, FL, retiring in 1975.  Fred loved to travel and visited many countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Australia. He had an extensive knowledge of music and theater, reflected in his large music and movie library.

Fred is survived by 5 nieces, Sue LaFraugh of Gig Harbor, WA, Caroline Braun of Port Arthur, WA, Christine Norris of Plano, TX, Pauline Young of Leonard, MI and Laura Petrik of Tucson, AZ, 2 nephews, Robert Marzke of Tempe, AZ and Steven Paige of Suttons Bay, MI, plus grandnieces and nephews, and great-grandnieces and nephews.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow. Inurnment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Lansing.
