Elsie A. Mestelle

Elsie Mestelle, 87, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Eaton Community Palliative Care.  Elsie was born in Battle Creek, MI on October 12, 1926 to the late Charlie and Zenaide Maybourne.  She graduated from Parma High School in 1944 and received a degree in secretarial science from Argubright’s Business College in Battle Creek in 1947.  A year later she married the late Joseph Mestelle on October 30, 1948.  Elsie worked as an executive secretary at Kellogg’s in Battle Creek and M & R in Sturgis before becoming a mother.  After the death of her husband in 1989, she returned to work as secretary and receptionist at Hospice of Lansing for 15 years.  For the past 2½ years she had been a resident of Dimondale Nursing Care Center.

Elsie is survived by two children, Rebecca Mestelle (Paul Lindman) of Skokie, IL and David Mestelle (Elizabeth) of Eaton Rapids, MI; her two granddaughters, Kate and Amy Mestelle; her sister, Gladys (Vaughn) Shumway of Tekonsha, MI; stepbrother, William (Linda) Stewart of Louisville, KY; her cousin, Tom (Nadine) Maybourne of Pleasant Lake, MI; sister-in-law, Betty Mestelle of Sturgis, MI; and 18 nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 18, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.  Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.  Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Palliative Care.  Online condolences may be left for Elsie’s family at www.EstesLeadley.com.

We were sorry to read of your loss. Your mother was a great lady and
we treasured her friendship that went back many years especially those at Ascension Lutheran Congregation while our children were all growing up – May you be comforted in knowing that others care and that she is in a better place. Our thought & prayers are with your
