Age 75, of Lansing, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 after a courageous 6-year battle with Pancreatic cancer. “Betty” was born February 20, 1936 in Lansing.
She graduated from Sexton High School in 1954 with her future husband Fred and from Central Michigan University in 1958 with a BS degree in Education. At CMU she was affiliated with Delta Zeta sorority. She retired from Lansing Public Schools (Northwestern Elementary) in 1990. She was a member of Greater Lansing Association of Retired School Personnel, and a life member of MEA and NEA. For over 20 years she was an avid swimmer at Waverly East. She also enjoyed her L.C.C. writing classes, and had several essays published.
Betty was preceded in death by her brother William Healey and parents Russell and Nellie Healey. Surviving are her loving husband Fred, daughter Laurie Carey, son Steve (Leisa) Schworer, two grandsons, Colton Frederick and Cody Steven Schworer, brother James Healey (Pat) of Hudsonville, MI, sisters-in-law Gloria Healey of Florida, Helen Mitchell of Lansing, Bonnie (Jack) Rambo, and Marjorie Schworer and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the North Westminster Presbyterian Church, 743 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., Lansing, with Pastor Timothy Chon officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
