Eleanor N. (Swanson) Renfrew

Eleanor N. (Swanson) RenfrewAge 80, passed away August 17, 2011.  She was born February 4, 1931, in Detroit.  Eleanor graduated from Michigan State University in 1952, with a bachelor’s degree in Zoology.  She was a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church, ELCA, and was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Surviving are:  husband, William; sons, Richard (Rhonda) Swanson of Plano, TX and Eric (Dana) Swanson; stepdaughters, Kimberly (Rick) Gebbie of Nashua, NH and Margo Jones of Kissimmee, FL; 7 grandchildren, Jonathan, Kristopher, Matthew, Ryan, Alexander, Audrey, Mary and Jennifer; and her brother, Lawerence A. Nelson.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Myrtle Nelson.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2011, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 6301 W. St. Joseph Hwy., Lansing, with Pastor Laura B. Gerstl officiating.  Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit on Tuesday. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, and at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time Monday.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Eleanor Renfrew.

I was so sorry to learn of Eleanors death – she consistently shared her love with all those around her! Her warmth, her tenacity, and the strength of her faith gives us a shining example to follow. She had a wonderful ability to accept any person for who they were. My heart and my prayers come to each one of us that is grieving.

She has left so many wonderful memories – May our Lord strengthen you! Sent with love.
