Dorothy Leilah (Webster) Reik

Dorothy passed away on April 13, 2014 at the age of 95 at Grandhaven Living Center. She was born on a farm in North Olmsted Township, Ohio on August 30, 1918 to Dean and Stella Webster and grew up surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins.  She earned a teaching degree from Kent State University in 1940, and was an elementary school teacher in the Cleveland, OH area for the next ten years.

Dorothy married Harold Edwin Reik on October 21, 1950, and in 1955 they moved to Lansing, MI where they raised their three sons, Roger, Lynn and Douglas.  She and her family were active members of Grace United Methodist Church.  She was also active in PTA (Barnes Ave Elementary School) and Cub Scouts.  After her sons were old enough she became a substitute teacher in the Lansing Public Schools for many years.

She loved traveling, enjoying the journey as much as the destination; and was a loving and proud grandmother to seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In 2007 she suffered a stroke and moved into Grandhaven Living Center where she was well cared for by the staff and her family.

Harold passed away in 1992.  Dorothy is survived by her sister, Wilma Thomson, her brother, Sheldon Webster, and her sons and their wives and families, Roger and Christine of Ann Arbor, MI, Lynn and Linda, of Lansing, MI, and Douglas and Nancy of Brownsville, TX.  Her grandchildren are Rebecca Wong (Michael), Kimberly Gall (Jared), Randy McDaniel (Melissa), Robert, Annemarie, Dean, and Nathaniel.  Her great-granddaughter is Ivy Wong.

A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1900 Boston Blvd., Lansing, with Pastor Jane Ellen Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel and beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace United Methodist Church.
