Doris B. Anderson

Doris Berkey Anderson loved and admired by all who knew her passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on November 25, 2012. She lived in East Lansing, MI.

Mrs. Anderson was vibrant, active, and on the go most of her long successful life.  She was born in Rochester, NY on December 14, 1920; the year women gained the right to vote! She graduated from MSU in 1942 and was married for over 50 years to R E Olds Anderson.  She was an active member of the Junior League of Lansing, Sparrow Hospital Guild, Mildred Erickson Fund, “Taste of the Town”, Wharton Center Inner Circle, Boarshead Theater Board, Lansing Symphony, several golf leagues, and President of the R.E.Olds Foundation.  She was generous in her philanthropy with many local and national organizations including the National YWCA, Red Cross Tiffany Circle, Boarshead Theatre, Ingham Medical Center, and the Capital Area Humane Society.

She is survived by her three daughters, Diana Tarpoff, Deborah (Peter) Stephens, Katrina (Michael Denomy) Anderson; close family friend and care-giver, Connie VanDerTuuk; two step-children, REO Anderson and Metta Jane Anderson; three grandchildren, Emily Polo Tate, Matthew and Gregory Stephens; brother Jack Metzger, and four nephews and their families.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her granddaughter Sarah Tarpoff.

She lived a wonderful life.  Her family wishes to recognize the compassionate service of Great Lakes Caring—Hospice.  A memorial to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Burcham Hills, Ada Whitehouse Room. In lieu of flowers and donations, Mrs. Anderson’s wish for all is “to live your life to the fullest and do something kind for others each day.”

Doris was a dear, wonderful and giving person. She was loved and will be missed by many.
