Bruce Robert Sneider

Bruce SneiderBruce Robert Sneider was born in Lansing, MI on April 24, 1935, to Otto and Opal (Adams) Sneider, and died in Holt on Saturday, June 4, 2011, after a brief illness of ALS.  He was raised in Lansing and was a graduate of Sexton High School in 1953, and attended Ferris State Institute.  He then served two years in the U.S. Army Reserve, being honorably discharged in 1956.  In 1957 he married Sue Bauer and to this union were born four children:  Kathleen (Dave) Morrison, Mecosta, MI, Robert (Charlotte) Sneider, Zephyrhills, FL, Laurie Sneider, Lansing, and Tamara (Bill) Fate, Williamston, MI.  Following Sue’s death in 1980, he married Gaynel (Henderson) Finney in 1990.  Bruce also had the pleasure of being called Dad by Shellie Finney and Valerie Finney of Lansing.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren, including Jennifer Sneider whom he and Gaynel adopted and had the joy of raising, plus Phillip (Tanesha) Schulte, USMC, Fort Sill, OK, Dan (Jennifer) Schulte, Paw Paw, MI, Eric Rogers, Lyons, MI, Keaton and Lacey Fate, Williamston, Ashley and Danielle Finney, Lansing; also six great-grandchildren.  He is survived by one brother, John (Jane) Sneider, Westport, CT; sisters, Janet Sneider-Brown, Ashland, OR and Alice (Tom) Bouck, Elmira, MI; sisters-in-law, Mary Sneider, Wyoming, MI, and Ellen (Warren) Barth, McGraw, NY; and three brothers-in-law, all of Eagle, MI:  Sherrill (Judy) Bongard, Curtis Henderson, and Vaughn (Deb) Henderson.  He is also survived by two aunts, Elsie Leisure and Anna (Jerry) Potter of Lansing.  In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by a brother, Alan Sneider, in 1987 and several aunts and uncles.

Bruce was employed for 33 years by General Motors.  He enjoyed his participation with the Ingham County Democratic Party, one time running for county commissioner.  In the 1970’s he also participated with the Coventry Players in Mason, making his acting debut as a Russian ballet instructor in the play, “You Can’t Take It With You.”  In his retirement years, he was an avid golfer, MSU sports fan, participating with the Downtown Coaches and Rebounders Clubs, an ardent Euchre player at the Delhi Senior Center and enjoyed the friendships he made at the Oak Park YMCA pool working out with the other seniors.  Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, and also from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, with a memorial service beginning at 3:30, at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Holt Community Food Bank, P.O. I will miss his, “Hi Coach”. It always made me smile. that’s what he called me because I coached Keaton many years in basketball. Keaton and Lacey – your grandpa was a good man – continue to make him proud.
