Antonia N. "Toni" Hoffman

There are a few people in this world who possess that rare gift of being able to brighten our lives with laughter and make even our darkest days easier to bear.  Such people should be celebrated, for they are the ones who remind us how to smile.  On September 2, 2013, we lost one of those special people.  Toni Hoffman died at her home in East Lansing, MI.  She was 71 years young.

Toni was born April 26, 1942, to Nicholas and Lottie Dertouzos in Detroit, MI.  She was a graduate of Wayne State University and for the past 28 years served as a Judicial Assistant for the Ingham County Probate Court, having retired this past April.

She was a devoted wife to Aaron Hoffman, beloved mother to Karla Goetz (Jeff Nester) of Roscommon, MI, Stephan (Silva) Hoffman of Northville, MI, and Lieutenant Commander Nicole Hoffman, USN of San Diego, CA, loving grandmother to Alexander, Gabriel and Jacob Hoffman, and dear sister to Michael (Jean) Dertouzos, and more dear family and beloved friends who are left to cherish her memory.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1701 E. Saginaw St., Lansing, with Fr. Mark Sietsema officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, with a Trisagion service at 7:30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and/or Ele’s Place in memory of Toni Hoffman.

Toni was one of the kindest, yet, gutsiest people I ever met in my life. I am one of the people with whom Toni shared her “ability to brighten our lives with laughter and make even our darkest days easier to bear.”

I know that she continues to walk in beauty and grace toward the light and to the other side.

I’ll miss you, Toni, my friend.

Pat and I were deeply saddened to hear of Toni’s going to God’s kingdom. Arron, Karla, Stephen and Nicole, we want you to know how much we loved her.

In addition to being a devoted and loving wife and mother, she was a compassionate and understanding friend. After we left East Lansing, on our return for visits, Toni was the one person we had to meet and discuss our days in East Lansing and her loving family.

She will be missed by all her friends, but we know that some day we will meet again in God’s kingdom, where she will be rewarded for what she gave all of us in this world.

Our prayers will be for all of you and your loving wife and mother. God Bless

I’ll miss Toni. There are really no words to ease the pain of this sudden loss. To Aaron, Karla, Stephen and Nicole:
Remeber that Toni has left the best of herself behind – in our memories, in our hearts, in our souls, and in YOU. She has also left a circle of friends to surround, embrace, and lift you up in prayer. May her memory be Eternal!

Have you ever had a friend that no matter how much time had passed between visits, when the two of you finally found the time to meet, it was just as though no time had passed? That’s the kind of friend Toni was to me. I will warmly recall our girl talks..the laughter, the tears and the secrets … and I will miss her. Aaron, Karla, Stephan, Nicole and family, I am sorry for your loss. It will be easy to keep her in your hearts. She loved you all so much.

Toni was a blessing to all those she came in contact with and she will truly be missed. Her greatest love and joy was her family – there was a sparkle in her face when she spoke about her family and children, especially her grandchildren – there was no greater love she could evoke from her soul than the mention of her babies. There will be a void here on earth without her, but Toni will fill heaven with warmth, love and laughter. I know she will guide her family every day and be the protecting angel on their shoulders.

Everytime I see a rainbow I will think of Toni because she brightened the world in that joyful infectious way. Toni had positive spins to put on the world and made our community a much better place to live in.

Toni, I will miss you, especially on your birthday, and on that day I will light a candle in rememberance of you, my wonderful friend. I will pray for you always! It’s no surprise you are sharing stories with God, He takes the good souls first and your family should take comfort in that and all the love you gave throughout your life and left behind.
