Alice "Jane" Knechtel

Age 84, of Grand Ledge, MI, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2013.  She was born July 13, 1929 in Bay City, MI to Earnest and Elsia Van Kuren. Jane loved to do many things; she loved golfing, traveling with her husband, participating in Elks Club activities, animals, taking photographs of wild turkeys, her children, grandchildren, nature and wild flowers. Most of all she loved to cook and entertain for her friends and family. Jane loved to participate in the Holt Ram boosters and even started the program that provides meals to the football players before games.

Jane is survived by her husband of 62 years, Russell and her children: Vickie L. (Robert) Barnett, Kathleen (Stuart) Thorburn, Penny (Tom) Kaiser, and Daniel Knechtel. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Kevin Gustufson, Steven Thorburn, Jennifer Gustufson, Jay Thorburn, Danny Kaiser, Kaurynn Knechtel, Kendall Knechtel; and 2 great-grandchildren: Jordan Hanks, and Dylan Hanks. Jane was predeceased by her brother, James Stark.

Visitation for friends and family will be ­­­from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A short celebration of her life with a light dinner will follow at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

So sorry to hear about Jane’s passing. Having lost both my parents I know how difficult it is. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Jane was such a terrific person. Her involvement and support of the Holt Public schools was greatly appreciated. Whenever asked Jane and Russ where always there to help the athletic department. Jane and Russ you are both respected and admired.
