Age 75, of Lansing, passed away January 31, 2013. He was born July 5, 1937, in Coopersville, MI, a son of Lavern and Ruth Kromer. Ray was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, and graduated from MSU. In 1999, he retired after 32 years at MSU Swine Research Center. Ray was an active member of Church of the Resurrection, where he was an Eucharistic minister, and participated in the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Knights of Columbus and cooking for the church ox roast festival. Ray loved dancing, camping, traveling, hunting and fishing. He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. Ray enjoyed many years of camping with his family and church friends.
Surviving are: his wife of 51 years, Beverly (Wischmeyer); 3 children, James (Terese) Kromer, Janice (John) Harvey and Mark (Dana) Kromer; 7 grandchildren, Garrett and Gabrielle Kromer, Zachary, Jacob and Sydney Harvey, and Max and Maggie Kromer; siblings, Margaret (Gene) Helsen, Fred Kromer and Dorothy (Ben) VanDam. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2013, at Church of the Resurrection, 1505 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, where the Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, or Resurrection School in memory of Raymond Kromer.
