Gerald Dee Smith

Gerald Dee SmithAge 74, passed away December 1, 2012.  He was born June 23, 1938, in Holt, to John and Mildred (Benson) Smith.  Gerald was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1955-57, and in the Reserves from 1957-63.  He was the owner/operator of Residential Damp-Proofing since 1972.  Gerald enjoyed spending winters in Arizona.  He enjoyed camping and fishing, and had the opportunity to travel to Alaska.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond and Lewis Smith and sisters, Betty Roberts and Jean Maas.  He is survived by:  his wife of 43 years, Sharon; daughter, Kimberly Smith (Ronnie Thompson); son, Scott (Cady) Smith; stepdaughter, Rochelle (Randy) Wonch; grandchildren, Stephanie (Trent) Brummette, Michael (Angela) Kolp, Leiloni Wonch and Clayton Wonch; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Smith; sister, Joana Batten; sisters-in-law, Edith (Marvin) Clare and Ann (Richard) Vink; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with The Rev. Edgar L. Owens officiating.  Interment will follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Ingham County Animal Shelter in memory of Gerald Smith.
