Age 84, of East Lansing, passed away August 23, 2012. He was born August 15, 1928, in Grand Rapids, MI, to Leo and Yetta Simon. He was formerly of Boynton Beach, FL and Alma, MI. Joseph was married to Paula (Baron) Simon for 49 years. She preceded him in death.

Joseph was president and chairman of Alma Iron & Metal until he retired in 1993. He was a past member and president of the Alma Rotary Club, a member of the Masonic Order and became a Third Degree Shriner, past president of Temple Benjamin in Mt. Pleasant, MI, and was a former director of Commercial Bank in Ithaca, MI.

He is survived by sons, David (Betty) Simon and Roger (Randi) Simon, all of East Lansing; daughter, Sharon (Joe Wenzl) Simon-Wenzl of Novi; grandchildren, Lindsay and Mike Goldberg, Jordan Simon, Marc, Stephen and Nora Simon, and Megan and Michael Wenzl; special friend, Shirley Pescovitz; sister, Roz Blumenau; sister-in-law, Marge Simon; and brother-in-law, Donald (Anita) Baron. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin and Philip Simon.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2012, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Rabbi Amy Bigman of Congregation Shaarey Zedek officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the Gratiot County Community Foundation.

Shiva will be held at David and Betty Simon’s┬áhome, 6488 E. Island Lake Drive, East Lansing, at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2012, and on Monday, August 27, 2012, at 7:00 p.m., at the home of Roger and Randi Simon, 2546 Koala Drive, East Lansing.
