Virginia L. Comly

Of Lansing, Age 93, passed away, June 22, 2012. She was born June 7, 1919 in Camden, Michigan to Ralph James and Hazel Lois (Scott) Schlaybaugh.

Virginia was a graduate of Lansing Central High School in 1937, and later went on to work as a Stenographer for the U.S. Treasury Department, worked as a secretary for the John Deere Plow Company, and also was a cashier at Busch Jewelry in Lansing. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Virginia was a volunteer for many years with the Child Guidance Club, and she also volunteered for twelve years with the American Red Cross. She enjoyed playing cards with good friends, had a passion for golf, enjoyed crafts, and the LeDanseur Dance Club. She loved spending time at Schoolsection Lake with her family.

Virginia is survived by her daughter Cheryl (James Rapp) Smith; grandchildren: Mark (Jem) Smith, and Lisa (Travis) Metcalf; great grandchildren: Hunter Metcalf, and Ryleigh Metcalf; one niece Susan (Robert Noordhoek) Schlaybaugh; and one nephew Rex (Jan) Schlaybaugh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 41 years J. Edwin “Budd” Comly, a son-in-law Stephen Smith, and a brother Rex (Doris) Schlaybaugh.

The funeral service for Virginia will be held 12:00 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Pastor Gary L. Simmons officiating; interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Cerebral Palsy Foundation. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Colonial Park AFC, for their love, care, and compassion.
