Morton M. Gordon, Ph.D.

Age 87, of East Lansing, passed away May 29, 2012.  He was born November 8, 1924, in Atlantic City, NJ, the son of Hyman and Bella Gordon.

Dr. Gordon attended Rutgers University, graduated from the University of Chicago and received a Ph.D. in Physics from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He was a professor of Physics at MSU for almost 40 years. Dr. Gordon was instrumental in the design of a new breed of cyclotrons. He was a patient mentor and his students went on to build accelerators all over the world.

Dr. Gordon was married to the late Bernice Gordon for 57 years, and is survived by two daughters, Anne R. Gordon and husband David K. Watson of Hightstown, NJ and Janet R. Gordon of Chevy Chase, MD as well as 3 grandchildren and a sister, Sallye Gordon of Ventnor, NJ.

The funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing, MI 48933. Burial will take place in New Jersey. Dr. Gordon may be remembered with contributions to public radio or to Learning Ally, which provides educational support to the blind.
