Kurt passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2012. He was currently of Grand Ledge, MI and formerly of Lewiston, MI. He is survived by his wife Ella of 52 years. He is also survived by children Don (Kathy) Wilson of California; Milly (Mike) King of Florida; Sally (Jeff) Shull of Ada, MI; Ginny (Brad) Widger of New Hudson, MI; Vicky (David) Doubleday of Florida; Shelley (Doug) Palmer of Freeport, MI; Karl (Julie) Engler of Grand Ledge, MI; 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Loretta (Winford) Lovelace; Mitzi (Don) Ruswick; Iva (Lonnie) Leftwich, all of Tustin, MI, his brother Doug Engler of Rose Lake, MI and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Adolph and Milly Engler and his son Kurt “Dugan” Engler.

Kurt was born on September 21, 1933 in LeRoy, MI. He graduated from Lapeer High School, served in the Air Force in the Korean War, attended Boston University and Eastern Michigan University. He spent most of his life working for General Motors at the Pontiac assembly plant. He loved the outdoors and had many wonderful hunting and fishing experiences. He was also a passionate fan of the Detroit Tigers. His biggest love was his family. He rarely missed an opportunity to attend one of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and will always be remembered by his family as a loving and supportive dad.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St., Lansing, MI. A graveside service will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Burdell Township Cemetery in Tustin, MI. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ingham County Medical Care Facility Foundation in Okemos, MI.
