Gordon E. Walter

Beloved husband, father, grandfather passed away peacefully at his favorite place to be, his cottage on 8-Point Lake, on Saturday, March 24, 2012. He was born February 22, 1937, in Lansing, the son of the late Harold and Helen Bohnet Walter.

Gordon was a financial planner having been inducted into the AXA Equitable Hall of Fame in New York City and real estate investor for over 50 years.  He was the former Treasurer of the Commanders Club and enjoyed their annual meetings on Mackinac Island. He was a major contributor to the MSU Museum, a member of the Sparrow Foundation and a member of the Country Club of Lansing. He was also involved with Woldumar Nature Center, which his father co-founded. Gordon traveled extensively to many countries. His favorite place from all his travels was Jackson Hole, Wyoming and fishing the Snake River.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra (Simmons) Walter; children, Tamara (John) Schuster, Candace (the late Garry Sommer) Sommer, Todd (Marcie) Walter and Jennifer (Delco) Rowley; grandchildren, Jessica and Tyler Walter, Brooke and John W. Schuster, and Rachel, D.J., and Israel Rowley; brother, Jim (Helga) Walter; many nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.

The family is very grateful to his many friends and family members who made it possible for Gordon to remain active until the last days of his life.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2012, at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. A private family burial will take place at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woldumar Nature Center or the Capital Area Humane Society.

Todd, Candace, Sandy and Family,
My condolences to everyone on Gordons passing. I have many good memories of growing up with you all as your neighbor in Grand Ledge until we moved back to FL in 1977. My deepest sympathy.
